Why Therapy is Life-changing

Going to therapy can be a daunting experience for many people. What is Therapy? What if I don’t connect with my therapist? Is my therapist judging me? What if I can’t afford the service? I can just do this all myself.

Those questions are warranted and understandable, but we are going to break down how therapy, and more specifically Silver Linings for Seniors has an answer for those concerning questions and can help.

“Mental health…is not a destination, but a process. It’s about how you drive, not where you’re going.” – Noam Shpancer

What is therapy?

According to goodtherapy.com, “Therapy, also called psychotherapy or counseling, is the process of meeting with a therapist to resolve problematic behaviors, beliefs, feelings, relationship issues, and/or somatic responses (sensations in the body).”

What if I don’t connect with my therapist?

Do you get along with everyone you have ever met in your life? I am going to venture to say that you don’t – and that’s okay! You are aren’t going to connect with everyone and in turn, you won’t connect with every therapist either. Therapy is all about connecting with your clinician and being able to share what is in your heart. If you become a client at Silver Linings for Seniors and you don’t feel therapy is going the way you intended it to, just let us know! We will do our best to connect you to a therapist that better fits your personality and needs. We want each and every client of ours to feel that they have a good working relationship with their clinician, and we will do what it takes to make that happen on our end.

Is my therapist judging me?

Absolutely not. It is important to remember that all therapists have a degree to show for their career path and are trained professionals. They are not judging you at all, instead, they are there to help and guide the way toward the breakthrough you are working so hard for.

Our therapists understand how difficult change is. They know that it is no easy feat, but they must apply what they know in order to help you. When you feel like your back is against the wall and you are looking for a solution to keep fighting, that’s usually a great time to get started in therapy. No matter what age, gender, race, etc. that you identify as, it is so brave to reach out and ask for help – therapists are willing and ready to help you find your silver lining.

What if I can’t afford the service?

At Silver Linings, we understand that this is a point of contingency for many of our clients. Therapy can be expensive (if you don’t have good mental health insurance coverage). Luckily, at Silver Linings, we accept Medicare and other major insurances! Once you give us a call to get started, you will learn early on that there will be no surprises. We always let you know what your co-pay will be up front. If you are not able to afford the co-pay that you owe, we can always look into a “waiver of payment” form that would need to be filled out and sent in. We do everything in our power at Silver Linings to get you the care that you deserve.

I can just figure this out myself…

Often times, it is hard to ask for help. We think that we are a burden, we can handle it ourselves or we’re just afraid of the unknown. On the contrary, it is very brave to reach out and ask for help. Recognizing that there are some changes that need to be made in your life is one of the first steps in the right direction.

At SLFS, we are always willing and ready to help you “Find Your Silver Lining”.
