Suicide Prevention Month: Hear from our Therapists
I hope you weathered the storm well! We are changing things up this month!
September is Suicide Prevention Month. With an effort to raise awareness, we will be posting videos from a few of our talented therapists about prevention and warning signs of possible suicide on both our website and social media instead of doing a Lunch & Learn on Sept 28th. These videos will go live throughout the day on Sept 28th.
According to the Suicide Prevention Resource Center: “Suicide is an important problem among older adults. Suicide rates are particularly high among older men, with men ages 85 and older having the highest rate of any group in the country.1 Suicide attempts by older adults are much more likely to result in death than among younger persons.”
We are also working to schedule a QPR training in the next couple months. QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide.
“Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.” (QPR Institute) This is about a 1 hour training, and is a great tool for your toolbox! If you are interested in learning more, please respond to this email.
